Your skin is your largest organ, it’s also your fastest growing organ, there’s a common misconception that all that needs to be done to take care of it is cleanse and moisturise… Not so I’m afraid. In fact if you are trying to hydrate your skin using only moisturiser, it’s probably not worth using it at all… Moisturisers, alone do not add moisture to your skin. At best, a moisturiser used on its own will make your skin soft.
So what do you need for healthy, glowing, hydrated skin?
Well you need Vitamin C (in the morning) and Vitamin A/Retinol (in the evening), in the form of serums; these will feed your skin from below, where a moisturiser is unable to penetrate.
But don’t throw your moisturiser out just yet… They make a great barrier from the harsh elements, and you will likely need additional help when the skin is very dry, in winter or from too much sun or wind; this is when moisturisers come into their own.
During the winter months consider changing the skincare products you normally use for extra hydration. Switch to a creamy cleanser that will add more moisture. Always hydrate from the inside out; tempting as it is in the cooler months to forgo your eight glasses of water a day, it’s important to stay hydrated, so swap out tea or coffee for a hot water with lemon.
