Lifestyle and genetics definitely play a part in the way your skin ages, but there’s also an element of truth in the old adage “you are what you eat”.
We’ve compiled our top 5 list of foods that are great for your skin, so you can quite literally feed your face!
-
Cruciferous Vegetables
Brocolli, Kale, Cabbage et cetera – These are high in anti-oxidants. They contain vitamin A which gives a huge anti-aging boost and Vitamin C which aids collagen production and keeps your skin healthy and supple.
-
Nuts & Seeds
Almonds, hazlenuts and sunflower seeds – Are high in Vitamin E, this protects skin from oxidative (cell) damage and supports healthy skin growth. Walnuts contain omega-3 essential fatty acids, which can improve skin’s elasticity.
-
Grapes
These contain Resveratrol which is a potent antioxidant, improves collagen synthesis, and reduces cell damage. (Resveratrol can also be applied topically and is a key ingredient in Aspect Dr Moisturising Cream.)
-
Chocolate
Choose only the dark chocolate, that contains 70 percent cacao, it contains high levels of flavonols, a potent type of antioxidant. Dark chocolate also helps combat stress, cocoa helps reduce cortisol which means less collagen breakdown in the skin, and fewer wrinkles.
-
Fish
Oily fish, including salmon, sardines, mackerel and anchovies all contain omega–3 fats. These are the good fats that help fortify skin cell membranes. These healthy fats allow water and nutrients into the skin while keeping toxins out, and may also fight inflammation in the skin. Insufficient fat in the diet means our skin cells are less able to retain water and will lose their plumpness.
