As temperatures cool in Nelson and Marlborough, it’s time to think about your winter varicose vein treatment. At enhanceskin, we carry out varicose vein procedures all year round. But there are a few additional benefits of scheduling treatment over the cooler months.
Winter varicose vein treatment:
Here are 3 reasons why winter is the perfect time to have varicose vein treatment.
Our clients are always surprised by the relatively pain-free treatment they receive for varicose veins. In fact, they often comment that the most uncomfortable part is wearing compression stockings after treatment. These are necessary after your procedure but are often easier to tolerate in winter. You are also more able to adapt your wardrobe and hide compression stockings under trousers, or longer layers in wintertime. Our compression stockings are fairly sheer and black, so, for women who prefer a skirt, they will fit with your winter wardrobe.
Avoiding Sun Exposure:
Dr David will recommend that post-vein treatment you avoid sun exposure. Taking this preventative action will ensure that you don’t suffer possible skin discolouration. While our Nelson winter days can still be sunny, cooler temperatures mean that it’s not as tempting to wear shorts. Plus, if you’re wearing a skirt you’ll generally be wearing tights in winter too.
You’re already in Hibernation Mode:
While all of our varicose vein treatments are walk-in walk-out procedures, you may still wish to take a little recovery or healing time. In the winter months, it feels more appropriate to stay by the fireside and binge-watch the latest Netflix boxset. That said, it’s still important to add some recovery exercise into your daily routine. Check out our list of gentle, at-home exercises that will help you recover after your winter varicose vein treatment HERE.
Of course, the biggest benefit of winter varicose vein treatment is that come spring you’ll be able to shed your layers and reveal your vein-free pins!
All the varicose vein treatments offered by enhanceskin are minimally invasive. A complimentary, full doctor’s vein assessment and scan helps to determine the treatment most suitable for you.
- Ultrasound-Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) uses specialised ultrasound equipment to guide injections of sclerosant to close the vein permanently. This procedure is virtually painless, so requires no anaesthesia.
- Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), the gold standard varicose vein treatment, again, requires no general anaesthesia or hospital stay. You walk in and walk out (wearing compression stockings for two weeks) and can drive home afterwards. Like UGFS, there’s no downtime, and you can be back at work the next day.
- Venaseal Glue is another option for a small number of patients with advantages Dr David explains to those who he feels will benefit from this treatment.
