No, we haven’t found the Christmas cracker jokes already! A facial peel, or as some people may call this treatment, chemical peel, is something our clients often ask us about. But at enhanceskin in Nelson, we prefer to call this treatment a medi-facial. Because actually, that’s what it is – a facial using clinical strength skincare products for maximum results.
Unfortunately, facial peels have an undeserved reputation as being harsh on the skin. In fact, these days the medi-facials we offer utilise fruit extracts to rejuvenate your skin and complexion, leaving it looking and feeling firmer, and improving overall texture.
As we enter high-summer, we put a hold on IPL treatments at our Nelson clinic, but a medi-facial can be a great alternative for improving skin tone and texture. Now, because the facial peel (or medi-facial) has received a bad rap in the past, we thought we’d bust a few myths! Read on for all the details.
Myth-busting the facial peel or (as we call it) medi-facial:
Myth: Peels are bad for your skin.
Our peels utilise fruit extracts to visibly rejuvenate your skin and complexion, they work deep within the skin and encourage the appearance of new healthy cells, the texture will look and feel firmer, while fine lines and wrinkles appear dramatically softened.
Myth: A facial peel will cause aggressive peeling and flaking of the skin, so downtime is required immediately afterwards.
Truth: Your skin’s reaction really does depend on the type of treatment you decide upon in your consultation with our Cosmetic Nurse, Brittany. Treatments range from gentle to medium strength. You may notice slightly visible peeling to a light/moderate flaking of your skin. This usually begins day 2–3 after your peel. But, you might not even see this; in fact, you may just notice your skin becomes slightly flushed in appearance for a few days.
Myth: Facial peels are painful.
Truth: The peel may feel a bit prickly and will warm the skin. There may be some mild discomfort with the stronger peels. Your skin may start to feel tight. Brittany is always in the room to monitor safety and comfort. She can deactivate the peel at any time.
Myth: Peels can only be performed in winter.
Truth: Not so. In fact, as we have already said, we will often use medi-facials as a solution for improving skin tone and texture in the summer months, when we don’t offer IPL. Of course, some protocols need to be followed after the treatment in terms of sun exposure and protection, but these are all explained by Brittany at your initial consult.
