At enhanceskin, we’re known throughout Nelson and Marlborough for the varicose vein treatment options we offer. Many people visit us because of the visible, unsightly veins that render them unable to wear shorts. Others come because of the painful symptoms that they no longer wish to live with. But beneath the surface, there’s another reason to have your veins treated. If you ignore your varicose veins, you increase your risk of developing more severe health issues.
Varicose vein treatment – Why it’s important:
Some of the conditions that could develop if you leave your varicose veins untreated include:
Hyperpigmentation
This develops where excess blood has leaked under pressure into the tissue of the leg. Patients legs become painfully swollen, and the skin dark and discoloured.
Lipodermosclerosis
This hardening of the tissue in the legs occurs when they have been left inflamed for an extended period and becomes irreversible leaving an ‘hourglass’ looking deformity.
Venous Leg Ulcers
A venous leg ulcer can develop due to chronic (long term) venous insufficiencyand arise after the warning signs of slow healing of insect bites or gardening scrapes. These painful open sores are exceptionally difficult to heal. Best to try to avoid them before they become an issue, with varicose vein treatment.
Varicose veins can even lead to fatalities. A study by the Journal of the American Medical Association determined that patients with untreated, varicose veins may have an increased risk of developing a DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis).
How we help – Treatment Options:
At enhanceskin, all of the treatments are carried out either at our clinic in Nelson or at the Churchill Private Hospital in Blenheim, Marlborough. They are all minimally invasive, walk-in and walk-out treatments.
- Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) uses specialised ultrasound equipment to guide injections of sclerosant which permanently closes the vein. This procedure is virtually painless, so requires no anaesthesia.
- Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), the gold standard varicose vein treatment, again, requires no general anaesthesia or hospital stay. You walk in and walk out (wearing compression stockings for two weeks), and you are even able to drive home afterwards.
- The newest treatment we offer is Venaseal, a medical glue that closes off Varicose Veins. There is no need for stockings in those who it suits as a treatment! And air travel is allowed at any point after treatment.
Before we embark on any treatment plan, we offer a COMPLIMENTARY full doctor’s vein assessment and scan will help to determine the treatment most suitable for you. Reduce your risk of developing more severe health issues, contact us to book your appointment with David!
