Do your legs often feel achy, heavy or tired? Or do you sometimes feel a burning or throbbing sensation in your legs? If so, you may have varicose veins. Sadly, venous disease often goes unnoticed and untreated because people aren’t aware that varicose vein symptoms don’t always manifest visibly. Every day New Zealanders are walking around with a pain in the leg when they don’t need to! Some people no longer feel the pain because their brain is sick of registering the ache or heaviness, so turns it off! However, that doesn’t mean the potentially dangerous skin changes stop!
Varicose veins are present when veins become enlarged and overfilled with blood, this happens when the valves in your veins, that normally prevent a backward flow of blood, get weak and ineffective, blood begins to collect in the incompetent vein rather than continuing back toward your heart.
Anybody I’ve met who suffers from venous disease and the associated varicose vein symptoms wants to hang their hat on a reason they became the (un)lucky one to get a pain in the leg. People will often assume it’s because they’ve had a job where they have stood for long periods of time, an old sporting injury, or perhaps because of a result of pregnancies or being overweight, or even just because they’re getting older. In my opinion it frequently just comes down to genetics! We treat men and women, old and young… Our age range to date is 17 to 94 years old!
Whilst you can minimise painful varicose vein symptoms by resting your legs with your feet up, wearing compression stockings, losing weight and exercising more, the only way to get rid of your symptoms permanently is to treat the incompetent vein. At enhanceskin we do this in several ways.
Varicose Vein Treatments:
- Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGFS) uses specialised ultrasound equipment to guide injections of sclerosant which permanently closes the vein. This procedure is virtually painless, so requires no anaesthesia.
- Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA), the gold standard varicose vein treatment, again, requires no general anaesthesia or hospital stay. You walk in and walk out (wearing compression stockings for two weeks), and you are even able to drive home afterwards.
- The newest treatment we offer is Venaseal, a medical glue that closes off Varicose Veins. There is no need for stockings in those who it suits as a treatment! And air travel is allowed at any point after treatment.
Before we embark on any treatment plan we offer a FREE full doctor’s vein assessment and scan will help to determine the treatment most suitable for you. Don’t suffer from a pain in the leg any longer, contact us to book your appointment with me!
