At enhanceskin, we believe any time is a great time to free yourself from painful and unsightly varicose veins. But, as we approach the coldest months of the year, we thought we’d recap on why winter is the perfect time to treat varicose veins.
Winter – The perfect time to treat varicose veins:
Many people choose to have their varicose veins treated in winter. It’s the perfect time to treat varicose veins for several reasons:
Compression stockings can be more comfortable:
Wearing compression stockings is a crucial part of aftercare for varicose vein treatment.
They will help minimise discomfort and bruising, prevent clots and facilitate better circulation. You must wear them 24/7 for one week, including showering and sleeping.
However, some clients find these uncomfortable and hot in the summer months. In the winter, you may find you tolerate them more easily. You’re also more likely to wear trousers and boots in the cooler months, which more easily disguise your compression stockings.
Reduced risk of sun exposure:
After your varicose vein treatment, it’s essential to avoid sun exposure. The sun’s rays can damage the skin and cause pigmentation changes. Doing this in winter is easier than in summer when you spend less time outdoors.
Both Ultrasound Guided Foam Sclerotherapy (UGS) and Endovenous Laser Ablation (EVLA) are minimally invasive, allowing you to return to normal activities almost straight away. So, you can walk, garden and enjoy gentle exercise. But, it’s best to avoid vigorous exercise and activities; this can be difficult to do over summer, which is a time for enjoying Nelson’s hiking and biking trails. In winter, it is much more acceptable to take time for gentle recuperation.
