Some of you may think it’s odd that we’ve decided to write an article on sunscreen myths just as we settle in to autumn. But when you read ‘Myth #1’, we think you’ll understand exactly why we’ve chosen now to write this post!
Three Common Sunscreen Myths – And the truth you need to know!
Myth #1 – You only need sunscreen in summer
This is, without doubt, the greatest myth of all where sunscreen is concerned. Clouds do not block harmful UVA and UVB rays. UV rays can also be emitted by many indoor lights. So, come rain, cloud or sunshine you need to apply sunscreen every day. The easiest way to do this is to make application part of your daily skincare routine. Use your sunscreen after you have cleansed and applied your serum, but before you apply your makeup.
Myth #2 – Makeup and/or Mosturiser with a Sun Protection Factor will protect my face
Not so! While it’s true that some commercial cosmetic and skin care brands may have included a sun protection factor in their products, these are generally never enough to protect your face on their own. They certainly can’t be considered a replacement for a quality facial sunscreen. At enhanceskin, we recommend that you always use a facial sunscreen. This may seem obvious, but we know that lots of people still go for the one size fits all approach when it comes to sunscreen. Using a product specially formulated for the face will revolutionise your sunscreen experience!
Myth #3 – Sunscreen doesn’t expire
Just like any other skin care product, the active ingredients in sunscreen will break down over time. This will leave your skin unprotected. The good news is that if you’re using your facial sunscreen every day, you should use up your tube within the 12 month expiry period!
At enhanceskin, we stock a range of sunscreen products, including specially formulated facial sunscreens, from PCA Skin. Do call in to find the perfect sunscreen for you.
