While the lockdown period has interrupted many businesses worldwide, it has also interrupted treatment and treatment follow-ups. It is, of course, vitally important for everybody to follow the Government’s guidelines. Only by staying at home will we flatten the curve. To help you with your post vein treatment we thought we’d share some tips to help you stay well in lockdown.
Walking:
Walking is the most critical form of exercise post vein treatment. It is vital to get at least 30-45 minutes of walking a day in the first two weeks post-treatment. This regime reduces any possible post vein treatment issues by helping to ‘keep things moving’. Walking can also reduce any leg pain that you might be experiencing post-treatment. David finds many patients continue with walking after the initial two weeks for the obvious ongoing health benefits.
Foot-Pumping Action:
If you are finding yourself less active than usual during the lockdown, a simple foot-pumping action can help to keep the blood flowing. Think of yourself putting your foot down on an accelerator. It’s this ‘pumping’ action that can be beneficial. Ankle pumping exercises utilise a calf muscle pump function to pump blood to the heart by muscle contraction. This exercise is also great for reducing swelling.
Online Home Workouts:
This is the perfect opportunity to explore online home exercise videos while you have more time on your hands. There are so many YouTube videos that you can follow, and most don’t require any gym equipment. Find an exercise that’s suitable for you and incorporate it into your routine. While it’s advised to slowly ease yourself back into any strenuous exercise post vein treatment, there are many other low impact exercise routines that one can follow.
Keeping Active:
If you are lucky enough to have a garden, this is the perfect time to get stuck into some weeding, planting, tidying, etc. Bending of the knees, light lifting and using your core muscles all help to keep the blood flowing. All these muscle contractions can help aid in healing without being detrimental.
