At enhanceskin, we’re known throughout Nelson and Marlborough for the injectable cosmetic treatments we offer. We fully support the New Zealand Society of Cosmetic Medicine in their quest for better regulation of these, particularly dermal fillers. There are a lot of myths and misconceptions out there, and at enhanceskin, we believe it’s essential that you can make an educated and informed decision about the treatments we’re offering. That’s why we always offer an initial complimentary consultation for all injectable cosmetic treatments.
Today, though, we thought we’d look at some of the misconceptions we hear most frequently, and give you our side of the story.
Myth #1 – If I have injectable cosmetic treatments I’m going to look ‘overdone’ or end up with a ‘trout pout’.
Fact – At enhanceskin, we follow the less is best concept. We stage treatments to ensure you reach your desired result. This longer-term view means you achieve your goal while maintaining a natural aesthetic.
Myth #2 – Injectable cosmetic treatments are really painful.
Fact – Botox and fillers are very manageable. We use a cooling stick to reduce full sensation for Botox administration. Lips can be a sensitive area. So, when we are administering lip fillers, we use a powerful topical anaesthetic cream. Ice, or a local anaesthetic injection, can also be used for further sensation reduction. Varying techniques also offer comfort, for example, needle versus cannula. Generally, treatment procedure time is short lived for any injectable cosmetic treatments.
Myth #3 – Injectables are expensive!
Fact – You need to look upon botox and fillers as a maintenance regime. Initially, fillers are an investment to reinstate lost volume. Areas such as lips use significantly less product and therefore cost less. Cheek fillers tend to require more as the area is more extensive. Medical grade skin care, as well as sun protection, will ensure your skin is in the best condition it can be, and that your injectables last as long as possible. A word of warning, injectable cosmetic treatments are not the sort of thing where you should consider price alone. Do your homework about the clinic or person offering the treatments.
Myth #4 – Botox is dangerous…
Fact – Botox has been used safely in New Zealand for many years. In the health care arena it is used for eye and bladder conditions, and to treat muscle spasticity in cerebral palsy. These various medical conditions require much higher doses than are used for cosmetic treatment. Your body metabolises Botox within twenty-four hours of injection. While, the results are longer lasting, over three to four months.
Myth #5 – Botox and fillers both do the same job.
Fact – Fillers plump individual areas, restoring lost volume. We use Hyaluronic Acid which is a naturally occurring substance in the body. Botox calms muscle movement. This reduces the damage caused to the skin from repetitive movements which break down collagen and elastin, creating fine lines.
Myth #6 – Injectables are just for women.
Fact – Not at all! Men age too! Injectable cosmetic treatments refresh and rejuvenate the skin. Improving both tone and texture no matter what your gender!
