A simple non-surgical procedure, Botox (Botulinum toxin) softens the fine lines or wrinkles caused by facial expressions, stress and sun. Botox is a natural, purified protein that relaxes the facial muscles that cause problem wrinkles, creating a smooth, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance.
Before any procedure we need to ensure we receive your informed consent. So you will always be scheduled for an initial consultation and assessment with Dr David Orsbourn, (even if you have had Botox with other doctors before). David will spend time explaining your options for treatment, expected results, costs, as well as addressing any questions or concerns you may have.
Because David has completed many of these consultations we have a pretty good idea of the questions and concerns that are often raised in relation to the Botox procedure. We also know that there is a lot of misinformation out there, so in this article we look at four Botox myths and explain what is actually the case…
Botox Myth #1: I’ll end up with a frozen face.
Mythbuster – Here at enhanceskin we aim to create natural looking results. Your facial expressions will become softer and fresher, giving a more relaxed appearance. The end result is very natural. Your wrinkles will become smoother and may even disappear altogether.
Botox Myth #2: It’s going to hurt.
Mythbuster – Most patients tolerate the treatment very well only reporting a tiny pinching sensation with each injection similar to waxing or plucking. It does come down to technique, we’re very fortunate at enhanceskin that Dr David is a Master Injector. His background as a GP, years spent practicing appearance medicine, and his continuing varicose vein work, mean that he handles that needle very skillfully indeed!
Botox Myth #3: It’s not safe.
Mythbuster – Botox® therapy has a good safety profile. It has been used in millions of people worldwide, and to treat many medical conditions, including eye spasm and neck spasm.
Botox® therapy is used in young children with cerebral palsy, where it relaxes contracted muscles to help them walk and improve their hygiene. As with many of the medical treatments, it is often used for this in doses over 10 times the amount used for the average adult frown line. The safety has been proven over the past 20 years through extensive testing and research.
Botox Myth #4: It’s expensive.
Mythbuster – As Botox is prescribed on a case by case basis, we can’t tell you exactly how much it will cost until you’ve had your initial consultation with Dr David, (which by the way is complimentary). However, your Botox® therapy will generally last for around 3-4 months, considering that it probably equates roughly to the same cost of a monthly cut and blow wave in a good salon.
Here at enhanceskin we always include a complimentary mineral make up after a treatment of Botox® therapy so you will leave the clinic looking fabulous!
