At enhanceskin, we find that Anti-Wrinkle Injections (Cosmetic Botulinum) and Dermal Fillers are two of our most frequently requested cosmedical treatments, and yet we still find that at an initial complimentary consultation, many of our clients are confused by the difference between the two procedures. So with that in mind, in this week’s blog, we’re going to demystify dermal fillers and set you straight on anti-wrinkle injections.
Anti-wrinkle injections
These are used to soften the fine lines or wrinkles caused by facial expressions, stress and the sun. The injected natural, purified protein relaxes the facial muscles that cause problem wrinkles, creating a smooth, rejuvenated and more youthful appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections can be used to treat forehead lines and frown lines, bunny lines, crow’s feet, vertical lip lines, gummy smile, and platysmal (neck) bands. It can also be used to effect an eyebrow or smile lift. Check out this article from the archives, to discover more about these treatment areas.
Effects are not immediate following this treatment. Instead, your facial expressions will gradually become softer and fresher, giving a more relaxed appearance. The result (often after three to four days) is very natural. Your wrinkles will become smoother and may even disappear altogether over several months or repeated treatments for stubborn, deep lines.
Although individuals vary, the effects of your anti-wrinkle injections will last for around 3-5 months. Research shows that regular use in the first couple of years can yield better, longer lasting results.
Dermal Fillers
Rather than relaxing the facial muscles Dermal Fillers (gel-like substances) are used to increase or restore volume and physically lift and sculpt areas of the lips, face, neck, and décolletage. Fuller contours that are the result of this treatment help to effect the radiant glow associated with youth.
The fantastic thing about all the dermal fillers is that there is instant gratification, you will see the results of your treatment immediately.
Depending on the area being treated and the type of dermal filler used, a one-off treatment can last between 6-18 months. We recommend top-ups before the treatment has worn off completely.
The use of anti-wrinkle injections or dermal fillers are not mutually exclusive; depending on your requirements a treatment plan may include using a combination of both.
